The SKY81279 is a high-efficiency, 1.5A high-currentboost converter with a programmable constant currentsink. It is an ideal power solution for LED photo flashapplications in all single-cell Li-ion powered products.

The SKY81279 maintains output current regulation byswitching the internal high-side and low-side switchtransistors. The transistor switches are pulse-widthmodulated at a fixed frequency of 2.0MHz. The highswitching frequency allows the use of a small externalinductor and output capacitor.

Skyworks' proprietary AS2Cwire™ (Advanced SimpleSerial Control) serial digital interface is used to enable,disable, configure, and program the operation of theSKY81279. Using the AS2Cwire interface, the LED flashand movie-mode currents can be programmed to differentlevels. The SKY81279 includes a separate FlashEnable input to initiate the flash operation and a FlashInhibit pin to quickly reduce the flash current to moviemodelevels during high battery demand.

The SKY81279 contains a thermal management systemto protect the device in the event of output short circuit.Built-in circuitry prevents excessive inrush current duringstart-up. The shutdown feature reduces quiescentcurrent to less than 1.0μA.

The SKY81279 is available in a a Pb-free, 14-pin 2mm x3mm TDFN package.
