描述 Description

The MP5516N is a monolithic power management system designed to manage energy storage and backup release in enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs). It consists of a current-limited, reverse-current protected input power switch (E-fuse), an autonomous buck-boost energy storage and release converter, and storage capacitance health monitoring. The configurable storage voltage, backup release, and system output bus voltages enable flexible design. An onboard analog-to-digital converter (ADC) provides real-time monitoring for many power system parameters via the I2C.

The input switch's configurable current limit helps to limit inrush current during system start-up. The reverse current blocking prevents backup energy from flowing to a failing input source. The energy storage/release converter's switching frequency (fSW) and charging current can be configured to allow for optimal external component values and size trade-offs in design. The energy release transition is controlled by an internal logic for seamless transition. A constant-on-time (COT) control buck topology ensures steady regulation during energy release. The buck-boost energy storage/release converter only requires a single inductor to operate.

Onboard multiple-time programmable (MTP) memory allows system operating parameters to be specifically stored to a given product assembly, such as the input current limit, capacitor health check start and stop values, and discharge current. These parameters can be adjusted in system via the I2C interface. The onboard, 8-bit ADC can be used to monitor the input voltage (VIN) and input current (IIN) in real time.

The MP5516N requires a minimal number of readily available, standard external components, and it is available in a QFN-25 (4mmx4mm) package.
