BecauseofthelowRDS(on)ofthepowerMOSFETsandintelligentgatedrivedesign，theefficiencyofthesemotordriverscanbeupto97%.Thishighefficiencytheuseofsmallerpowersuppliesandheatsinks，andthedevicesaregoodcandidatesforenergy-efficientapplications.
TheDRV83x2requiretwopowersupplies，oneat12VforGVDDandVDD，andanotherupto50VforPVDD.TheDRV83x2canoperateatupto500-kHzswitchingfrequencywhilestillmaintainingprecisecontrolandhighefficiency.Thedevicesalsohaveaninnovativeprotectionsystemsafeguardingthedeviceagainstawiderangeoffaultconditionsthatcoulddamagethesystem.Thesesafeguardsareshort-circuitprotection，overcurrentprotection，undervoltageprotection，andtwo-stagethermalprotection.TheDRV83x2haveacurrent-limitingcircuitthatpreventsdeviceshutdownduringloadtransientssuchasmotorstart-up.Aprogrammableovercurrentdetectorallowsadjustablecurrentlimitandprotectionleveltomeetdifferentmotorrequirements.
TheDRV83x2haveuniqueindependentsupplyandgroundpinsforeachhalf-bridge.Thesepinsmakeitpossibletoprovidecurrentmeasurementthroughexternalshuntresistorandsupporthalfbridgedriverswithdifferentpowersupplyvoltagerequirements.
