The AAT3608 is a member of AnalogicTech’s Total PowerManagement IC™ (TPMIC™) product family. It contains a single-cell lithium ion/polymer battery charger, two 800mA switching regulators and five low dropout (LDO) regulators in a small Pb-free 40-pin 5mm x 5mm TQFN package, making it ideal for portable space-constraint systems.
The single input linear charger powers up from an adapter or a USB port. Charge current is programmable with an external resistor when using an adapter and selectable between 100mA and 500mA with a pin when charging from a USB host. It integrates a load switch for dynamic power path and sleep mode operation.
The step-down regulators are monolithic synchronous converters, integrating compensation network and soft start circuitry, to limit the number of external components. Featuring 95% efficiency, the two converters operate at 1.5MHz and use each a tiny 2.2µH inductor and a small 4.7µF output capacitor.  The output voltage of the first switching converter is externally programmable with external resistors and the output of the second is adjustable with I2C.
5 channel LDO regulators with different current outputs from 300mA to 50mA feature an excellent transient response of 1.5% maximum typical and very good accuracy of 3% overall. 300mA-LDO1’s output voltage is dynamically adjustable with two digital inputs. 80mA-LDO3 is dynamically adjustable with I2C. All other LDOs have fixed output voltages.
AAT3608 is a safe solution featuring digital thermal loop to prevent charger from overheating, and over-temperature and over-current protection for the regulators. In addition the charger includes a safety timer and battery temperature sensing. The device is rated over a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
